20 August 2010 Great Taste Awards proves Yorkshire really is best! Member News

It’s official – Yorkshire food and drink really is the best. The list of Great Taste Award winners just issued by The Guild of Fine Food reads like a roll call of deliciouslyorkshire members – with almost 30 members winning Gold awards, and four who took home the coveted three star accolade.

The lucky winners of the three stars were Just Williams for its Elderflower Cordial, made using locally sourced Elderflower Heads; Rosebud Preserves for its fantastic Gooseberry & Elderflower Jam; Lauden Chocolate for its passionfruit dark chocolate and The Wensleydale Creamery for its creamy Jervaulx Blue cheese.

David Hartley, The Wensleydale Creamery’s Managing Director, said: “Our dedicated master cheese makers work extremely hard to ensure our cheeses are of the highest quality.

“It is a real coup for Jervaulx Blue, which was only launched recently, to win this outstanding accolade. These awards are highly regarded within the industry and to have Jervaulx Blue endorsed as faultless by our peers is a fantastic achievement.”

Other successful deliciouslyorkshire members include Curry Cuisine which picked up two gold stars for its Rhubarb Chilli Jam, and Doncaster’s premier family-run pie maker, The Topping Pie Company which scooped two gold stars for their Chilli Pork Pie.

Regarded as the industry Oscars, The Guild of Fine Food’s annual Great Taste Awards are the UK’s largest independent evaluation of fine food and drink. The 2010 awards attracted a record number of entries. In total, 6021 food and drink products were blind-tasted, tested and discussed during two months of intense judging by 350 judges, comprising food writers, chefs, deli and farm shop owners, food producers and buyers.

To earn a three-star grade, an entry needs that indefinable ‘something extra’ – the little bit of magic that sets it apart not just from products of the same type, but in the world of fine food as a whole.

Says Jonathan Knight, CEO of deliciouslyorkshire, “Yorkshire is home to many passionate producers, and to have so many of our deliciouslyorkshire members winning a Great Taste Award this year reflects the quality we have within our fine food halls, delicatessens and farm shops throughout the region!”
